NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION

SAFE AND SOUND PROTOCOL

ENROLL/ Inquire about SSP

OVERVIEW

This is a guided nervous system reset using the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) by Dr. Stephen Porges, designed to help your system move out of survival states and into safety, connection, and regulation. SSP is a listening-based intervention using specially filtered music designed to support your nervous system.

It uses specially filtered music to gently support the vagus nerve and help the body shift out of chronic fight-flight-freeze patterns into greater regulation and safety. This work goes beyond insight — it supports your body in actually embodying change.

The process is self-paced and guided through a 5 hour listening track. Most clients listen in 10-30 minute segments 1-5x per week, and complete the full protocol over 4-10 weeks, dependent on personal pace.

You will receive guidance on: setting up an app on your personal listening device, how and when to listen, how to track your responses, and how to adjust pacing based on your nervous system. Support and integration is offered throughout the process.

You will need:

-listening device with app store (iphone, ipad, android, etc)

-over the ear headphones with cord (no bluetooth, wireless, noise cancelling). These will need to be able to be plugged into your listening device. usb or c-port compatible headphones are able to be purchased online.

This is for you if you’re experiencing:

– anxiety or chronic overwhelm

– shutdown, numbness, or disconnection

-support with trauma recovery

- need for support of neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, Sensory sensitivity)

– difficulty feeling safe in relationships/social settings

– sensitivity to sound, stress, or stimulation

Many clients experience improvements in areas of:

– feeling calmer and less easily overwhelmed

– increased capacity to handle stress without shutting down

– improved emotional regulation

– feeling more present, connected, and grounded in their body

– greater ease in social situations and relationships

– reduced reactivity to sound, stress, or stimulation

– improved ability to rest, focus, complete tasks, and honor needs

– a deeper sense of internal safety, which can support trauma healing and integration

-increased capacity to process and integrate past experiences

-improved boundaries and reduction in people pleasing

– increased clarity, energy, and resilience

HOW THE SSP PROGRAM WORKS

SSP does not require you to “talk through” your experiences. Instead, it works from the bottom up — supporting the physiological foundation that makes therapy, growth, and integration more accessible.

The SSP consists of three listening programs: Connect, Core, and Balance. Each consists of five hours of music. These are delivered in 10–30 minute segments, depending on individual needs. Listening sessions may occur 3–5 times per week (up to daily if approved by your provider, depending on your nervous system response).

It is billed as a stand-alone program, which you may choose to incorporate into therapy sessions or complete independently. An initial introductory 30-minute session is included in the cost, along with email check-ins with your provider for guidance regarding pacing, symptoms, improvements, and questions.

After completing the five hours of the Core program, you will be invited to listen to the Balance playlist for the following eight weeks to help reinforce and extend the improvements observed. SSP effects are known to continue unfolding for several months after completing the Core program.

SSP May Be Helpful If

• You understand your patterns cognitively, but your body doesn’t “get the memo”

• You’re stuck in cycles of hyper-vigilance, shutdown, or overwhelm

• Traditional talk therapy hasn’t fully shifted your stress response

• You want a structured, nervous system–focused reset

• You are recovering from abusive relational dynamics

• You identify as neurodivergent (ADHD/Autism)

• You desire more patience and capacity in daily stressors, work, parenting, or

relationships

• You want to feel and observe emotions without getting stuck in loops or paralysis

Areas of Potential Improvement

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

SSP is delivered through the Unyte app, downloaded via Wi-Fi to your listening device of choice.

You will need:

• A smartphone or iPad

Wired, over-the-ear headphones (Headphones cannot be Bluetooth or noise-

canceling)

INVESTMENT

The full SSP program fee is $775.

This includes:

• 30-minute SSP intake / program consultation

• Platform activation for full listening access to Core, Balance, and Connect

• Access to documents detailing nervous system regulation support ideas

• Electronic communication check-ins regarding symptoms, improvements, and pacing

SSP is a prepaid program and is not billed separately to insurance. However, many clients are able to use HSA or FSA funds depending on their individual plan. I recommend checking with your benefits provider for confirmation.

Due to provider preparation, consultation time, and activation of digital listening access, SSP program fees are non-refundable once payment is processed and the program has been activated and initiated on the Unyte platform.

HOW TO LISTEN

It is best to be in a calm, comfortable, and controlled environment where you are not on alert and unlikely to be interrupted. It is recommended not to look at screens or engage in activities that are stressful or elevate your heart rate. Clients often choose coloring, arts and crafts, crochet, gentle stretching, or resting upright in a comfortable position. After listening, your nervous system benefits from a soft landing before returning to daily demands. For 10–30 minutes afterward, choose something gentle and grounding.

Possible Temporary Immediate Responses After Listening

• Feeling calm, peaceful, or grounded

• Slower breathing

• Sleepiness or relaxation

• Yawning

• Increased sense of safety

• Clearer thinking / less mental noise

• Headache

• Feeling foggy

• Increased anxiety or heart rate

• Deeper dreaming

• Heightened emotions or sensitivity

• Temporary sleep disruption

• Feeling vulnerable, sad, or irritable

• Feeling overstimulated

• Difficulty concentrating

Why This Happens

SSP stimulates the vagus nerve through the auditory system. As the nervous system shifts

out of long-held protective patterns, stored stress may surface. There may be brief

increases in activation before settling, and the body may need time to integrate the new

state.

This is why pacing (10–30 minutes) is so important.Pacing adjustments may be needed if there are:

• Symptoms lasting more than a few hours

• Distress that feels unmanageable

• Persistent sleep disruption

• Significant increase in panic symptoms

AFTER COMPLETION

An exit questionnaire and follow-up communication will be available, along with discussion of continuing access to the Balance track to reinforce and maintain regulation in day-to-day life. Continuing Balance can be beneficial for those with trauma history, chronic relational stress, neurodivergent sensory sensitivities, or long-standing hyper-vigilance.

Reasons to Repeat Core

Sometimes the first round of Core opens the door. A second round can deepen the shift once the nervous system has had time to integrate and stabilize. Repeating Core is typically considered 4–6 weeks after completion. Clients who complete the program through this practice may repeat Core at a reduced rate.

Reasons to repeat may include:

• Noticed benefit but feels there is additional capacity available

• Symptoms reduced but not fully resolved

• Life stress increased and recalibration is needed

• Client tolerated the first round well

• Deeper trauma layers are emerging or a new trauma event has occurred

Supporting the nervous system at its root can create meaningful shifts — not by forcing change, but by restoring safety so that change becomes more accessible.

*Results vary based on the individual and the pace of the process. This work supports your nervous system — it does not force change. You’ll be supported in moving at the speed your system actually needs. A personalized plan will be built to create a plan for success.
